Waiting...

Last night two of our adults shared their faith stories with us. The first was about waiting. It really hit home for some reason...I'm not very patient, and am not good at all about waiting. I have never really been tested though...so I'm nervous that when the time comes that I have to wait I won't have the patience or the faith to handle it.
Something else for me to work on I guess. Mike has been great about getting me to calm down and wait better, to relax and not always have to be working and getting stuff done. Mike was worth waiting for!

Attemping to catch up...

So I'm finally attempting to catch up a putting photos in an album. The last photo that I put in an album is Mike and Lauren's baptism, on April 4, 2004. So I have a little catching up to do. Thankfully, I started this blog in Sept of 2005, so there is just one year in there that I'm a little fuzzy on.

Hopefully, now that we have a photo printer I will be able to keep more up to date!

and two hours later...so now April 2004-May of 2006 are in albums. I need to go buy another one for the remainder of 2006. I think I will actually start scrapbooking (but very very basically) for 2007. Starting with our trip to DC, and then it will mainly be picture of Taylor!

Funny Signs

Oh how I love random and funny signs! This one if from St Kitts, wherever that is!

Friday!

I get to hang out with baby T today. She is sound asleep right now, as we have already had a busy morning. Megan dropped her off at the Dunn Bros by our house at 8 am. T and I had some breakfast while we waited for our meeting with Todd. Then off to Ridgedale to walk and then meet Linda for coffee! It was busy, and now she is sleeping and I might be sleeping soon as well!
I just finished a really interesting book, Prisoner of Trebekistan by Bob Harris. All about his years spent studying for and playing Jeopardy! It was kind of a rambling read, but I did end up enjoying it.
I'm going to read Hanna's Daughters next, I enjoy family sagas so I am going to give this one a try!

time for a quick nap.

Pizza!

Since both of our husbands are out of town, Lori and I are meeting for dinner along with her sons, Sam and Nathan. We are meeting at the new pizza join in town, Solo's Pizza Cafe. Mike and I ate there with Deb and Dave the night of the blizzard since we had a coupon for free food. It is a really cool place...kind of like a Subway or Qdoba. You pick your sauce and then your toppings. It is nice to get exactly what you want on a pizza and not have to share since they are individual pizzas! I can only eat half, but it heats up really well the next day. I'm thinking about white garlic sauce, with mozzarella, tomatoes, and mushrooms. Yum-O!
I love pizza...just the smell or thought of it makes me hungry!

FMSC

Tonight I took a group of youth to pack meals for Feed My Starving Children. FMSC works to feed children in Africa and around the world. It is a pretty amazing organization. They have packing food down to a complete science. A group works together and scoops soy, rice, vegatables, and vitamins into a bag. The bag is weighed and must weigh a certain amount (add or take out rice to get it to the right amount). The bag is sealed, and then 36 bags are packed in each box. Each bag feeds 6 kids. Our group alone packed 21 boxes. That means we packed 4536 meals. In 3 hours of our time (including transportation, getting ready, and cleaning up), we packed enough food to feed 12.5 children for an entire year.

Wow.

Rugby??

We went to Isaac's Rugby fundraiser last night. He plays for Metropolis and the fundraiser was at Legend's Bar and Grill in Minneapolis. It was a lot of fun!
While waiting in line for the bathroom, I fell into conversation with the woman in front of me. She was there for a friend's birthday and was confused as to who all these people were. So I explained why we were there. A minute later she looks at me and asks, "What's rugby?" Huh. I wasn't totally sure how to explain it or if she was even serious. So here is what I found for definitions of rugby:
Rugby is a sport that started in 1823 when a boy in Rugby, England picked up and ran with the ball in a game of football, or soccer as it is called in the USA. The game developed as more English schools and universities began to play this interesting new sport. In 1871 the English Rugby Union was formed to standardize the rules and regulations of rugby.
A game of rugby, which is called a match is played with 15 players on each side, and is played on a field, called a pitch that is 100m long, and 69m wide. It begins with a kickoff, and the ball is progressed down the field by means of carrying and kicking the ball. The ball cannot be passed forward, only backwards. When the ball carrier is tackled, the ball is placed on the ground, and possession is fought for by means of a ruck. A ruck is where two or more players come together, and engage their heads and arms and try to push the opposing team over the ball, so that their team can gain possession. When a minor infringement of the rules or stoppage of the game occurs, restarting of play is done by means of a scrum. A scrum is where eight players on each side bind together in three rows. The first rows on each side interlock heads and then the scrum half throws the ball into the tunnel (the space between each side’s scrum). In the case of a severe infringement a penalty kick is awarded. Once the ball has progressed to one end of the field, the team can score what is called a Tri. To score a Tri, the ball must be touched to the ground in the Tri zone. After a Tri has been awarded, there is an opportunity to gain more points by a conversion kick. A Tri is worth five points, and a conversion is worth two points.

Does that help clear it up? I didn't think so!

Check out this website, convienently called What is Rugby.

Mankato

I spent last night with friends in Mankato. It was amazing, relaxing, and rejuvenating. Apparently I really needed some down time!

I want to learn how to make bread now.

Shameless

I'm going to shamelessly ask you to help support two friends of ours. One is starting a new ministry working to help kids in Africa live a better life. They are a new group, just starting out but they have amazing people and the best intentions. The name of the group is LiftKids and you can click here to see their website.

The other is for a former youth named Alayna. She is participating in the Relay for Life at Pacific Lutheran University. Click here to support her.

Thanks!

Gustavus Poem

I found this when I was still working at Gustavus and fell in love with it. I'm always afraid I will misplace it, so perhaps this is the best place for it. I think Elvee wrote it, but I'm not sure.

Gusties! It is time for you to leave this little college on the hill.
Gustavus has been a home to you for four years.
You do not realize, in your haste to go just now,
That you are leaving a home. That you will come back
To this home, all your life.
Gustavus is a special kind of home, a mystical home.
You leave it today; still, you never really leave,
No matter where in this world you go.
All your life you will stay in it.
It appeared to you in your youth;
You will see it when you are old.
It is a Kingdom of Identity--keeper of dreams, expectations!

What was it you sought in this house? What vision?
What fair, gracious, beautiful thing did you dream?
The meaning of life? The conscience of history?
Blessedness? The kingdom of light and of God?
O Journey! O Faust! O Lord Jesus!
O golden ground of music!
O shing world of nature!
O GUSTAVUS!

slackers...

I went to the depression seminar long enough to help guide people to the room, be introduced, and listen to the brief introductions of each panel member. And then I left. I just couldn't handle that kind of topic last night. Nor did I feel as though my attention span would have lasted. Also, the fact that Mike was home not feeling well didn't help. I ducked out, headed over to Champps to visit with a small group. Then to Salsarita's to pick up our dinner. The last stop was Caribou to visit with another small group. Then finally, home to Mike. Since he wasn't feeling well, we cheated and watched TV. We watched Heroes. Which, by the way, I am pissed will not be back until April 23. That's a whole month away! Then we watched the season premier of Girls Next Door. Quite possibly one of the funniest shows on TV right now.
So that was our nice relaxing evening at home. We both crashed out early and now it is another day at work!

March!

I know, how did it get to be March already! I'm gonna blame my lack of postings on the ski retreat and then being sick for so long. I am finally feeling better, but still totally ready for a nap! Life is busy this week as usual, but I am really going to try and post this week pretty regularly. Here's a pic of Taylor from my mom. She is getting so big (almost 9 months!)

Tonight we are cohosting a seminar thing on teenagers and depression. It should be interesting, hopefully it will give me something to write about tonight.

Snow Day!

So finally got snow! I'm so excited, it looks amazing outside. These are pictures of our front walk and deck. The snow was up past my knees on the deck. I love Minnesota!
